Such a pleasure to wake up on a Monday morning to a new Pros newsletter! Thank you!
And how delish does MS look in The Hound of the Baskervilles... though I'd read somewhere his voice was dubbed in that series. Not sure if true. But if so, I wonder why?

It seems that a large part of Martin's dialogue was indeed dubbed by an unknown actor, supposedly to make the character sound more American, but, according to a few reviews I've just read, with negative results.

Also
here (https://www.dvdlog.de/review/dvd-holmes-baskerville-richardson-en.html):

quote:
>>As Sir Henry, he is surprisingly flat and colourless, even though his character was written as a sun-bronzed American cowboy even with matching hat. His character just seems very artificial and unrealistic, almost like a weak parody not entirely unlike Doctor Watson himself. This is mostly because Shaw's dialogue was dubbed by another unknown actor with a terribly fake-sounding American accent, completely ruining the actor's delivery. <<

Oh I agree with you!... Not only does MS have an incredibly sexy beautiful voice, but I fail to believe he wasn't capable of handling an American accent satisfactorily. Plus it sounds like the unknown actor who dubbed him didn't do a good job himself!

If the reason was a different one, say, for example, the director found out in post-production that the sound quality of the programme wasn't good or there were extraneous noises in the final soundtrack (it often happens in 'period' films/TV series), and MS wasn't available to dub his own dialogue in post-production, still it doesn't explain why no other actor was dubbed in that series... :(
