See, this is why the Newsletter rocks - I had no idea PROSFANFIC on Yahoo is shutting down. I wasn't keen on Yahoo, but after investigation, I'm not sure I'm keen on the morph (re-morph?) into Groups.io either.

I can live with no 'adult' content, but I'm not sure I'm down with a content policy that obviously has problems understanding that breastfeeding is not an act of titillation. I presume that has something to do with the legalities where the servers are based? Anyhow, it's all wrong. Sexual content is about how you get babies, not about how you feed them.

So I guess I'm still not going to be joining PROSFANFIC.

Pity that, like a bit of Gen. Just have to write some more of my own :0)

Yeah, I think the only active group that is left is Yahoo is Proslibrs

I didn't read the content policy, but I guess there are not a lot to choose when it comes to mails groups.I believe Google still have them, but that's all :/

But, when you go to the root... well, Facebook has taken down pics of women breastfeeding, so... I guess we women are condemned to have our bodies sexualized, no matter what.

Though, if the consequence is having more people writing, well... silver lining and all that :P

According to the BBC investigation Facebook ignore closed groups swapping pics of 'hot schoolkids' and the related illegal comments, as well as outright child pornography.

But then, as we all know, the real scourge of society is not paedophilia but breastfeeding, so that's okay, then. :0(

Facebook do re-instate breast cancer and breastfeeding pics if challenged, but I'm not happy about them either.

Exporting misogynistic law-making on the sly isn't a great way to emancipate women. There need to be more alternatives so we can vote with our feet.

But I can't deny more writing is a good thing. :0)

I do wonder if I wouldn't get into trouble on PROSFANFIC anyway. I'm happy not to post slash stories - my own take is that all non-canon slash is a type of AU anyway - but I think debate suffers if you can't compare and contrast. It's not that I'd break the rules, it's just that I'd feel a bit stifled in what I could say because I'd be self-censoring in a way I don't feel I have to other places.

On the other hand I get the desire to have a place which isn't swamped by the slash take on Pros. Where there's the space to explore the lads' relationship within a non-sexual framework. A subject to which I'm very drawn, myself.

Conundrums.

I'm not surprised at all, to be honest. Enraged? Yes, but not surprised. The male gaze is prevalent in what's deemed appropriate or not, and while close groups are not a target because they are not easily at hand, people innocently sharing their owns pics are.

I believe that education and self-awareness are the only way in which women can overcome social constructions, but it will take a while. There is a lot of misogyny incorporated in all and every space, public or private. AS long as we judge us by male standards, we are doomed :/

Yeah, I understand the feeling. I remember when, under another group leader, Martin Shaw group asked to be taken out of the newsletter, because it was full of icky slash :(
But yes, sometimes we want to get out of the romantic and /or sexual setting, and is not easy. Not easy at all...
